American Democracy

In Social Studies we are learning about American Democracy, levels of government, and elections. Next week we'll have an election in the classroom. Here's are a couple ways for the kids to research at home to learn more. We also use these in the classroom.

Our characteristics (adjectives/glittery language)

Ms. Fowler just completed a great activity on our characteristics using adjectives/glittery language. She taped a piece of paper to each child's back. Then they walked around the room writing on each other's backs to describe one another. Too fun! I had to get in on their learning.

Home connection: try this at home with our kids. Have a family night where you describe each other's characteristics (adjectives to describe). It's a great way to build them up and a great vocab builder!

Our Mission Statements

Each classroom is asked to write a mission statement to state our promise to CFG, others, and our community. Before we were able to do this we read lots of mission statements from well know places. We made a noticing chart about what needs to be included in a mission statement. We wrote our class one together. Then each student wrote their own mission statement, published it, and recorded it on a really cool microphone! I'm so proud of their efforts and I know you will be as well. Some will be very beneficial at home as well. :)

Enjoy each recorded video!

Pinkalicious

We started our day off by reading, Pinkalicious. The kids had lots of wonderings! How would she turn pink on stage? Would she really turn pink? Would she stay pink forever? I even heard when my cousin ate too many pink cupcakes she turned pink!!! LOL! Gotta love kids!

Pinkalicious did turn pink on stage. There were actually three girls. There was Pinkalicious, PINKalicious, and PINKALICIOUS. I must admit, I was wondering how they were going to pull off this transformation! We laughed and clapped throughout the entire play! I was so proud of their etiquette during the play (we talked about this before going).

Most of the kids had never been to the Chapman Cultural Center or Barnett Park so it was a great experience for them. I told the kids I would get information on all that CCC and Barnett Park has to offer and create a place in our classroom for them to explore both venues.

They enjoyed lunch and playing at Barnett Park following the play. Thank you for allowing each of them to go and MANY thanks to the chaperones!!
