Taking an assessment can be taxing to some students but as I assess "sit along side of them" today, I'm watching as each students pull out a math tools, of their choice from their math bag, they feel will best help solve the problem. Some are using their number line, others are using their teen-frame, some are using their fingers and others drawing the pictures.
Landon is using his number line to determine how many pennies Daniel has if he has 3 more than Tom. WAY TO GO LANDON!!
Allison chose to use the number line to help her make sense of the problem 10 and 9 ones. ALLISON, YOU'RE DOING GREAT!!
J'yaire used a teen-frame to rethink and make sense of the problem! He got it correct!! I'M SO PROUD OF HIM!!
